In the final steps of the ceramic process, products (excluding Raku'd Products) are coated with a glaze that makes the piece waterproof and and food-safe. However, this coating also serves as a decorative coating and can be chipped off if bumped too hard against another surface. For this reason, we recommend hand wash for all our products, especially thinner products to minimize the chance of mishandling and overall product damaging over time from the rougher dishwasher process.

For the most part, our products are microwave safe and can be used when heating up food and drinks. The only case in which products are not microwave safe is if there would be any metal components in the glazes (paint) used to give color the to the piece. In this case, the product will contain a disclaimer notice in the product page stating the piece is not to be used when warming things up in a microwave.

Raku pieces in general can include the same kind of clay as other pieces, but what separates them from the rest and makes them so special is the unique glazes that are used to decorate the piece and are built for the specific raku glazing process that creates special patterns and textures. Because the process of raku in glazing, firing, and drying pieces takes much longer and generates such unique pieces, these products will tend to be more expensive, yet definitely worth the price tag.

Unless the vase is Raku'd, flowers can be safely placed within the vase along with water to keep it alive. Some vases will absorb water quicker than others so we recommend checking on them frequently.

We do not recommend drinking out of any vases as even after fired, unglazed ceramic can harbor bacteria that can affect your health.
